Design has always been part of my life in one form or another. As a child my free time was spent creating art, in high school I took every photography, art and graphics class offered, in college I taught graphic design to faculty, and when I purchased my own home, I fell in love with the new art form of interior design.

In younger years I wondered whether my drive to create beauty was worthwhile, but my experiences have confirmed how deeply environment and surroundings affect our mindset and mood. I think it’s often under-appreciated, but believe it’s also one of the layers of life that adds richness and joy to our experiences.

Being able to influence this atmosphere is one of the aspects of design that I find so rewarding. Through the use of space, color, light, and textures, a space can be made to feel more peaceful, relaxing, energizing, inspiring or productive. Witnessing how design elements interact with one another and the cumulative power design has on people is a unique perspective I don’t take for granted.
